Even though jeans are just expendable work wear originally, people value at it produced over 50 years ago. History and story of jeans attract them.
In the first place, vintage jeans were not good quality. There were many defect points on fabric.
However, our product is under reliable quality control. We reproduce denim of vintage jeans by high performance computer spinning technique and vintage shuttle looms and finishing machine handled by skilled craftsman. We add high quality to vintage values and create innovative denim which can spread “Made In Japan” quality.

トヨダ GL-9
自社工場として、本社向かいに位置する物流倉庫跡地を活用し、株式会社豊田自動織機製のG型自動織機「GL-9（ジーエルナイン）」（1980年製）全9台が稼働する。旧い機種だけに、新品の交換パーツがない為に、部品取り用として廃棄織機も2台保有している。常に熟練職人のメンテナンスを必要とする織機であり、ヴィンテージを表現するうえで欠かせないこの旧式力織機とは、緯糸を巻き付けたシャトルが経糸を縫うように往復し、生地の両端にほつれを防止させるセルヴィッチ（耳）を持たせる織機で、現在主流の革新織機と比較すると、その生産効率は3/1以下となる。革新織機は高速回転で製織を行うため、糸の張力を強く張る必要があり、織り上げた生地の表面は均一できれいではあるが、フラットな表情で生地の個性を出すのが難しい。一方、旧式力織機は、経糸のテンションの張り方や製織スピードなど熟練職人の技により微調整を可能とする。この事により、糸本来の風合いやムラ感、そして凹凸のある織り方など、生地に様々な個性を生み出す。旧式力織機とはボタン一つで制御できるような機械ではなく、熟練職人の道具なのである。
TOYODA GL-9
COLLECT DENIM weaving factory is located next to JAPAN BLUE CO.,LTD head office.There are 9 units of TOYODA "GL-9" vintage shuttle loom which released in 1980's in the mill.
Vintage shuttle looms require technician's best maintenance all the time. It’s the key of vintage denim creation. However, there are no replacement parts of GL-9 because it’s vintage and doesn’t be produced new machine anymore. That’s why we also keep two broken GL-9 for just only to take replacement parts.
Most characteristic point of denim made by vintage shuttle loom is both edge of fabric. It’s called “Selvedge” It is made by reciprocating motion of shuttle which coiled weft yarn. Selvedge is for anti-fray originally, but now, symbol of vintage denim.
However, compared with mainstream innovated looms, the production efficiency is more less than 3/1 per day. Why we keep using such inefficiency old machine? Innovated looms can produce denim faster definitely but its surface is clean and flat. Conversely, vintage shuttle looms can create character to fabric by technique of craftsman, for example, setting up warp tension lower, weaving speed…etc. It can’t be controlled by just a switch. Vintage shuttle looms are artisan’s tool.

私達の商品企画は綿（わた）を選択することから始まる。世界各国から集められた綿の中から、自分たちの理想を見つけ、そこから糸作りが進んでいく。高度にコンピューター化された紡績技術により、ヴィンテージの表情を再現する為に、我々の求める糸のムラ形状を無作為にリピートしていく。糸を均一的に生産することは容易である。一方で、我々が求める様な、糸の太さに強弱をつけ、ヴィンテージに近づけるためによりナチュラルに不均一さを表現しながら高い品質を維持することは難しい。デニムにのみ求められるムラ糸と呼ばれる価値観。それを表現するために、山忠は我々にとって欠かす事のできないパートナーである。

COLLECT DENIM fabric design begin from cotton selection. We select ideal one from cotton gathered from all over the world and start yarn planning. We require un-even yarn shape for reproducing face of vintage denim. It is difficult to make natural un-even yarn like vintage jeans. Furthermore, it has to be high quality. １９５１年創業。１９８０年初頭よりセルヴィッチデニムの生産を開始。以降１９９２年の弊社創業期から現在に至るまで、まさに弊社の生命線とも言えるプロフェッショナルデニムファクトリーである。遠州浜松の旧式力織機を７０台以上保有し、今後１０年はリペアメンテナンスが可能なだけの部品取り用パーツをストックする。遠州の旧式力織機はパワーに優れた織機であり、デニムのような太番手の織物の製織に向くという。しかし、パワーに優れているが故に、より一層熟練職人の腕を必要とする。遠州の旧式力織機はスポーツカーのようなものであり、卓越し洗練された操作技術があってこそ、その織機のもつポテンシャルを遺憾なく発揮することができるのである。
一般的に、旧式力織機は織機の特性上むらなく稼働させることが非常に困難である為、革新織機に比べ織りキズと呼ばれる製織段階での生地欠点が多くなってしまう。しかし、シンヤはそれを許さない。旧式力織機だから織りキズは仕方がないという概念を覆し、革新織機と同等以上の品質を自らに課している。我々が最高品質のセルヴィッチデニムを供給できる理由がここにある。
SHINYA
SHINYA is denim mill which specialized selvedge design denim, established at 1951. From 1992 when COLLECT DENIM is established to now, they have been keep producing our selvedge denim. It’s no exaggeration to say that SHINYA is our “lifeline.”
SHINYA have over 70 shuttle looms, “ENSYU”, and they have also replacement parts what enable to repair for over 10 years. This machine is powerful and suit for weaving heavy fabric like denim. Meanwhile it is difficult to handle, because of power, so ENSYU only show real ability once it is handled by high skilled craftsman.
Denim weaved by shuttle looms normally have many defect points than one weaved by innovated looms. However, SHINYA don’t approve allow it. They set goals for themselves to produce better quality selvedge denim than one weaved by innovated looms. That’s why COLLECT DENIM can supply high quality selvedge denim.

１９７５年に創業し、倉敷市児島に位置する整理加工場である。整理加工とは、いわゆる生地の最終仕上げ工程で、ここでデニムの顔が決まるといっても過言ではない。生機と呼ばれる製織工場で織り上げただけのデニムは、生地表面の毛羽が多く、ねじれや縮みが大きい為、そのままジーンズにするのは非常に難しい。一般的には、生地の表面の毛羽を焼き取る毛焼き加工、ねじれを防止するスキュー加工、縮みを防止する防縮加工などを組み合わせてお客様の取り扱いのしやすいデニムとなっていく。このコトセン㈱では、商品コンセプトに合わせた我々の事細かな要望に対して、製造後３０年を超えるような伝統ある加工設備に改良を重ね、長い歴史の中で培ってきた熟練職人の技術とノウハウにより答えを導いてくれる。さらに、加工の試験結果は全てデータベース化され、国内最高基準のもと管理され、最終的には熟練職人の目視による検反に合格した生地だけが出荷を許される。この信頼性の高い品質管理こそが、私達の作ったデニムの価値を高める礎なのである。

KOTOSEN, our partner, is denim finishing factory established at 1975 on Kojima.
It’s no exaggeration to say that denim is given “face” by finishing process. Unfinished denim has fluffy surface and be happen skew and a shrink a lot. It’s hard to manage production under this condition. So, finishing processes like singeing, pre-skewing and pre-shrinking
KOTOSEN owns finishing machine which has kept to improve for 30 years and craftsman have high skill and know-how. Technical and test data is saved into database. These guide us to best way. Furthermore, quality is controlled thoroughly under highest standard in Japan. Accumulated data is one of their strong points to do it, but final inspection is done by skilled craftsman’s eyes. This reliable quality control system is the reason why our products is valued all over the world.
